22K Suicide Awareness Ruck & Veteran Social
April 27, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
This activity is set up to gather veterans and veteran supporters to combat the current mental health crisis in the military community.
There will be a veteran social afterward open to all veterans interested. If you ruck, regardless of service, you are welcome to join us at the social. You have proven yourself and we welcome you.
A few things to lay down before the 27th:
HYDRATE!!! We don’t want any heat cats and we will have ice blankets and water on standby.
NO OPEN CARRY ON THE RUCK. We want to control the narrative and the focus is on the mental health aspect of this event.
BRING YOUR SNACKS. Bring whatever you enjoy on hikes because you’ll need energy walking 14 miles!
FLAGS MUST BE OK’d BEFORE FLOWN. U.S.A., Army, Marine, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and state flags are acceptable. Confederate Flags or anything distracting from the mission is unacceptable. This is not a preference of mine, this is to control the narrative of the ruck.
IF YOU HAVE A GLOW BELT, BRING IT!
BETTER TO HAVE AND NOT NEED THAN NEED AND NOT HAVE. Pack important stuff but don’t overload yourself. No rain is expected as of yet but be prepared for that to change.
NO DRINKING ALCOHOL ON THE RUCK. Wait til after ya savages!
NO MAN/WOMAN LEFT BEHIND. If you need to fall out, a designated escort will fall back with you until you can be motivated to get back in the group or until a safety vic picks you up. This event is for fun but prepare yourself for a long hike with hardball surfaces and changing pace. ***But no one will be left alone***.
The after party and social gathering will be held at Big Lick Brewing Co. outside in their beer garden. Catering will be provided for participants, complements of Mission BBQ in Roanoke.
